our team

  • Caroline Hissa is a community music leader and passionate advocate for the impact communal music-making has on our young people and communities.

Caroline holds a Master of Arts in Community Music from Wilfrid Laurier University, in addition to a Master of Christian Studies from Regent College at the University of British Columbia. She began playing the piano when she was seven years old and has since played the piano, the saxophone and the oboe in numerous community bands and orchestras.

Investing in her community is a value that Caroline holds near and dear to her heart. She has sat on the City of Kitchener’s Arts & Culture Advisory Committee and is involved in community projects ranging from gardens to welcoming newcomers and refugees.

“Community is what takes something theoretical and makes it real, something you can touch and feel and see make a difference – especially in the lives of kids. Getting to hear community grow through music-making at CMSWR is my favourite part of what I do.”

She began volunteering with CMSWR as a piano teacher in 2018 after moving from Calgary, Alberta to pursue her post-secondary education and joined our staff team in 2021. She has a passion for music and helping people and hopes to continue making music as accessible as possible to all communities.

In addition to her role at CMSWR, Kyla is a piano and flute teacher in Waterloo and loves any chance to make music with others.
