Musical Note

How to Sign Up

CMSWR makes music lessons more accessible for young people in our community. We wish we could take everyone, but successful applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

If you’re interested in taking lessons with us, there are two ways to get started:

1. Connect with a Referring Organization

The main way people join CMSWR is through referring organizations. We recommend you connect with a referring organization and discuss your interest in CMSWR. If it’s a good fit, they’ll send along a referral and CMSWR will then connect with you directly. This is the best way to sign up for lessons. If there’s room available, we sometimes accept self-referrals. Click here for a list of our referring organizations.

2. Self-Referrals

Parents or individuals can use this application form to apply for lessons with CMSWR. Remember, our program is designed to help make music education accessible for young people in our community who face barriers. That’s why applicants need to meet some basic criteria like:

  • Facing a social or financial barrier to accessing music education.

  • Must live in Waterloo Region.

  • Must be between the ages of 5-18 (or have not yet completed high school).

  • Must provide a reference from a community member. References can be provided by a teacher, coach, youth worker, counsellor, or other community professional, and should be able to speak to the barriers to music education the applicant is experiencing. References will be contacted by CMSWR staff.

*Applicants who require additional assistance will be considered on an individual basis. Please contact CMSWR’s Executive Director at to discuss accommodations.

Applications are accepted throughout the year, but registration takes place in September and January. Applicants will be added to the waitlist and registered in the order their application was received.
